The things that Hubble takes good pictures of are galaxies and nebulae. These are very large objects and although very far away they still cover a relatively large area of the sky compared to a planet. Amateur astronomers know that they need their strongest lenses for planets but use weaker ones for galaxies and nebulae because they don't have to magnify them as much to see them. Pluto is the one of the smallest bodies in the solar system and it is also one of the farthest. It is also very dim because it shines by reflected light from the sun. Being small and very far away it doesn't get much sunlight. Distant objects such as galaxies shine with their own light. To get good pictures of many objects in the sky you have to gather a lot of light. The bigger the main lens or mirror the more more light you can gather. Even then it often takes long time exposures to get a good image which means keeping the telescoped aimed correctly. Distant objects such as galaxies don't change much over time but Pluto rotates once every 6.3 earth days which makes getting sharp time exposures hard.

For the same reason you can clearly see the Moon with just your eyes but you cannot clearly see an ant on the ground 20 feet away. Because the ant is small and far away but the Moon is REALLY big and farther away and the smallest detail you can make out on the Moon is WAY bigger than the whole ant. Pluto is small and far away and galaxies are REALLY big and farther away and the smallest detail Hubble can see in a galaxy is way bigger than the whole dwarf planet of Pluto.

Because Pluto is small. The things light years away are bigger than our whole solar system. MUCH bigger. It is like how you cannot see any detail on an ant 20 feet away but you can easily see some detail on the Moon 240,000 miles away.

hubble is designed specifically to look at deep space objects, it can take pictures of the planets but they dont tend to be of the best quality, the smaller the planet (or dwarf planet) is the poorer the quality will be.
