Extremely interesting issue. Depending on an individuals response to the critcism from others, I am sure that creativity is only one of many traits that could be crushed by the fear of criticism. From my own personal experiences when I was in my teens and the fires of enthusiasm burned brightly, I can recollect that I made the mistake of holding back on offering new ideas and suggestions for improvements in my first place of work simply by fearing "What will they think of me...a new boy coming up with ideas when they had been there for years ?" In the fullness of time and as I became older and wiser, I fully realised that the failure to act because of the criticism factor...was the very reason for the problems being there and unresolved in the first place !!There we are...thats set the ball rolling ....Any more input anyone ??

Part of the purpose of art criticism is to have a rational basis for the appreciation of art and avoid subjective opinions of taste but this is not always achieved. Art critics have probably existed for as long as there has been art and some people may argue that art is pointless without criticism. Usually, though, art criticism refers to a systematic study of art performed by people dedicated to that task rather than personal opinion.

Often artistic accomplishemnts are not for a period but they belong to ages. They have potential to influence the thoughts and opinions. Considring the impact that a creative activity can have upon the memebers of the public it aims at, one can only realise the need for a rational and spccilised debate upon what is going on in the name of art. Criticism is a systametic, natural and a healthy approch when it comes to incorporating the world of dreams, fancies and ideals into the lives of common people.

I'm just a dumb *** blonde don't ask me. However I am in love with Ryan Jones. Cymru am byth.

I can see that fear of failure/criticism/self doubt can destroy the creative impulse and eat away at talent, but only in the immature mind.
The true artist requires an iron will, an inner core of self belief that will overcome the big badger.

* the big badger is a metaphor for all creative fears and angst. Whenever self doubt pops up into our artistic minds we should imagine it as a big badger and run it over in a gas guzzling 4x4.
However if you are Welsh just think "Hwyl"

Criticism has and always will exist within creativity. One cannot exist without the other. Even if the creativity is not delivered for public consumption we are all self-critical something that can never be escaped. Surely it can be argued that criticism fuels creativity?

Criticism could be a form of being constructive, hence like the fellow person on here....thus will enable us to further ourselves in being more creative ...but along with that comes more criticism. I think both these nouns compliment one another. It's part of our human devise to be critical of other people ...this is what propels our human evolution. I aren't a professor.

Criticism itself is a form of creativity! Each art is refined and bettered by criticising the existing one and work on to get a better one. Criticism and creativity go toghether.

I don't think so. I for one do things and wear unfashinable clothes because I want to. I don't care what other people say on the subject. I know thare are many other people like me, so criticism will never take full control of creativity.

Criticism can inhibit an artist, and often seems to do so, but creativity exists before criticism, and after.

Creativity is an aspect of being, criticism is merely an activity.

True! When someone criticizes you just let it go.
What do they know anyway? It is only their opinion. Look within yourself for truth. That is where truth resides. You just have to be open to it and know what is true and what is false. False always comes from the ego. Don't listen! The ego isn't about creativity, it wants you to fail and to listen to the negative messages. Be a free spirit and flow. I know you will succeeded at what ever you want to do.

I like criticism...
I see it as room for improvement. If somebody criticizes I think about what was said and then will come to my own conclusions-not always do I agree with the critic, but it does open the mind to thought and possible progress
