Sunil Gavaskar of India was the first batsman to score 10000 runs in Test Cricket and Sachin Tendulkar of India is the first batsman to score 10000 runs in One Day Internationals.

Sunil Gavaskar (India): Gavaskar was literally coaxed into playing the series against Pakistan as he had expressed his desire to retire after playing the 3rd and final Test against Australia on his home ground at Mumbai. However the moment he had made up his mind and a few players came to know of it, he got a call from Imran Khan who requested him to postpone his retirement and told him "You've been a great friend and a great rival. Let's play against each other one more time." Gavaskar heeded to his advice. The decision proved to be a profitable one for the great man as he became the first batsman to score 10000 runs in Test cricket.
I personally would like to say that Sunny Gavaskar is the best. His record speaks for itself" Sir Vivian Richards on Sunil Gavaksar .
