If you're going to apply such reductive reasoning to the plot of a movie you've never seen, then why not give up on seeing all movies, since they sound equally simplistic when thus predicted?
Why would anybody want to see Brokeback Mountain? It's based on a novella by a good writer, adapted by good screenwriters, made by a good director and starring a talented cast. It was nominated for many awards and praised by critics. And it's a touching story about repressed denied love that spans many years, it's about the faded lifestyle of the rural west, it has beautiful scenerey, great performances and an amazing soundtrack.
Sure, sure, it's no "Son of the Mask" - but there are plenty of reasons to want to see it, and why closed-minded homophobic types with a rudimentary grasp of spelling should see it.

its a great movie, the acting is great, the story is great, the scenery is great. If you would give the time to sit down and watch it, it wont be a waste of time. its not a gay cowboy story. its a story of two guys in love in a time where "gay men" are still not well appreciated. it was a dilemma! not being able to show you love each other when you do unlike nowadays..its so sad...

Brokeback Mountain is a beautiful, very powerful, very moving drama. It is wonderfully acted, beautifully shot and well written. If you like great movies you should see it. If you are a homophobe you should see it to open your eyes.

I've seen it twice. It's a very good movie. It's deeper and more layered than simply a "gay cowboy STORY".

It may be so, but it tells a story of a man with conflicting emotions and having to choose between his wife over a an innocent young kid. All in all it is very real and it could happen to any one of us if we allow it. I'm not saying that it's a good movie but it could be a reason why they made it for. Either that or they were bored
