I have a compaq presario desktop. I also have dial up. When I connect to the internet I have no problems but a short time later. It shows at one end I have no connection but at the other I am still connected (if that makes sense). Basically I need to disconnect and then reconnect to get internet service. I had the same service use same jack everything the same but on a different (old) computer and never had this problem before. HELP!!!!

get a real conputer
the few people that i know that had a compac always had problems with one thing or another after the got rid of the compact they had no problems

Reinstall your modem drivers. get the latest from the manufacturer's website.
Anyway, when you get disconnected, you will not appear offline to others immediately.. there is a certain time lag.

have you talk to your (isp) server about the problem
check for spyware .
