Rodney Dangerfield. He knew more jokes than anyone. His timing was rapid and still very calculated and effective. I saw him once in a live performance with some friends, and we missed nearly half of the jokes because we were laughing so hard with tears rolling down our cheeks while his rapid fire continued. A record or video just can't compete with a live performance, IMHO. I've see a few of the greats, but Rodney's at the top of my list.

As a surprise for some, perhaps, Redd Foxx had a surprising funny show as well, though he depended more on racial epithets, and handicapped people, etc. Still, his sense of humor and timing were impeccable.

Yeah, I like Eddy Murphy, Richard Pryor, and Chris Rock. They are all great. I like Dave Chapelle better, though. Seinfeld fairly sucks

OK, more than you wanted to know..... Next!

Richard Pryor- the absolute king of stand-up.

He was so smooth it' was amazing- and he didn't really rely on sight gags or anything other than his timing and his choice of words.

Eddie Murphy is more versatile (he's equally funny in movies), but with nothing more than a mike and an audience, Pryor was the man.

Charlie Chaplin. He shot to fame playing the baggy - trousered ' Little Tramp ' in films comedies such as The Kid and The Gold Rush. Very great slap-stick comedy.
