Copper was mined earlier than iron because it's available in pure form in nature, unlike iron which requires very high temperature to purify (and also, it takes a somewhat wicked alchemist to do the experiment of producing iron - although iron was known already from meteorites, I don't see how it could be suspected that it was possible to extract it from iron oxide).

But pure copper is not so strong. If someone made bronze or brass by accident, the advantages of that alloy would be obvious.

brass and bronze were the easiest to make because the ingredients (copper, zinc and tin) were easy to mine and had a lower melting temperature which made them easy to smelter and cast. iron only came into being after smelting techniques were advanced enough to get higher temperatures.

Because they did not find something starting by 'A' so they started with 'B' and brass was the 1st one.

i guess it's because it melts at a lower temperature than other... back then it was impossible to obtain the high temperatures required by stronger alloys
