I would think not. The games are not that similar, though they do have a few things in common.
Credit for inventing baseball generally is given to Abner Doubleday, although the game had been around in various forms for quite a while before he set down the rules. It is generally believed to have developed from a game called "rounders."
There are many things the games have in common. Both games have "bats" "innings" "umpires" "runs," and are played on grassy fields outdoors. But cricket has "bowlers," while baseball has "pitchers," and the games have many differences.
The other difference is that I do understand baseball.

The United States of America also originated from England. But the lesson here is that the original is not always the best. In fact the original is usually a bland and unexciting version of the successor. I suppose if you like originals that much then you drive a model T, you have a cell phone that weighs 10 lbs and gets 15 minutes of talk-time per charge and you own an Atari video game console. I'll take baseball, the USA, an F350, an iPhone and a PS3 over your "originals" all day long.

No, Baseball originates from an old English game called "Rounders". I used to play it at school. The rounders' bat is a lot shorter than a baseball bat but I suppose the rules are similar, perhaps baseball has been modified some what.

I did a big project on this. Baseball originated from an english game called "Rounders". It was very simillar to baseball. When England took over India, China, Japan, and many other places. Cricket spread but both games originated in Britain. Having played both they are both very simillar.

It is considered to come from rounders but if you want to see the origins of the game I recomend reading David Block's Baseball Before We Knew It: A Search for the Roots of the Game. This was a great book that is easily available at any book store.

No one really knows. Rounders is probably more likely. In my opinion though, Baseball probably originated from a couple kids throwing a ball around... then trying to hit it with a stick... and so on.

I vaguely remember reading about this years ago. I think both games originated from a game similar to rounders.

There is a girls game in the UK called rounders, I suppose this could be the fore runner to baseball.
