You're being bullied by your aunt, I bet you can't wait to go home.
It's refreshing to hear that you don't like to wear the scarf

If you don't want to wear a scarf or hijab then you have to stand up for yourself and refuse to wear it. It depends on how much it bothers you.

I am British and male. I'm ambivalent about the veils. One one side it is none of my business. On the other it seems to me that some of these women do not want to cover their faces. But they must liberate themselves. No one can do it for them. It is a bit of a cliche. But freedom comes from within. It cannot be imposed.

The head scarfs are a different matter. I think that they look nice.

Just so you know - there ARE no British Citizens. Those entitled to call themselves British are in fact Subjects of the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

We welcome people from around the world who are willing to fit in to our society, speak English and contribute to the British economy.

Those who babble in foreign languages or take our hospitality yet exclude themselves by wearing clothes that make it impossible to see them are not welcome here.

People from foreign lands who choose to come to Britain should understand what we stand for in the world - then they should make a choice: join us, or if you feel that culturally you cannot, go to a country where you DO fit in culturally.

It really is that simple. AND: we have some people who were born here - white, British people - who don't fit in culturally. What a pleasure it would be if we could get rid of them.

To answer "ash griff", who seems to struggle with the English language despite being born here, if he doesn't understand the first sentence and realise that it is true then he not only missed his English lessons, he also wasn't there for all the British Constitution ones either. I never said the Queen has any power - indeed, in practice she has none at all. (In strictly legal terms she has ultimate power, however. That power has NEVER been given up.) That is not the point I made - the point is we are NOT citizens, we are SUBJECTS.

And, unfortunately, we are NOT a multi-cultural SOCIETY either. We just have an extraordinary mix of people from all ethnic backgrounds. But the multicultural dream died before it began - Muslims don't mix with the indigenous population, and neither do the vast majority of the Afro-Caribbeans or Africans. Have a look in the workplace - they all sit in little groups.

Go to a blood donor clinic, a play in the West End, any charity that is not concerned with race, any demonstration supporting the Health Service. There you will find the people who believe in and are part of Britain. I will leave it to anyone reading this to see who they are.

As I said, those who contribute to our Society and mix in it are welcome to this great country. The rest? Not.

I live and work in Bristol, the area I work has a heavy population of Muslims that wear traditional clothing and scarves/hijab, i don't think any differently to wards them, and nod, smile as i would any one else. I guess for you its about having the choice to dress like this or feel you have to for your aunt.. at the end of the day, if you make the effort to fit in and people reject you, they are not worthy of you. I think i understand what you are saying, carry your self with pride, as a women you don't need any ones permission to be you

While understanding it is a tradition and one which the follower has a perfect right to pursue, it is not a tradition that I am keen on. By putting a barrier across the face, it is a barrier to communication. It is my understanding that experts say that only nine percent of communication is verbal, the rest of it coming from body language and facial expression.

Those who use the veil have the right and I would defend that right. I would point out that in doing so they are cutting out discourse with the majority of other human beings.

essex ron is a mong. for 1 the monarch has no power any more it was all handed to parliament centuries ago by the monarch himself. the only power she has is over the church of england. we are a multi cultural society just because you are white and born here doesn't give you any extra rights. i am white and was born here and what he said i found offensive, i am equal to all other citizens. i don't mind different culture in fact life would be dull if we weren't all different.

if your aunt is treating you like that and forcing you to wear them then i suggest that you find out if the college you are studying at has halls of residence and see if you are entitled to them. Or just tell her right out that you dont want to wear it, remember at the end of the day she cant force you, you have your own rights and if any violence starts to brew just phone the police. they are there to protect the public.
