I find it amazing yet hopeful that U.S. citizens are finally opening their eyes! More importantly, their mouths! I am not referring to you, individually by the way.
The simple answer is the old adage: 'power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely!' It really is that simple!
What is more frightening is that the citizenry and elected representatives of our nation have ignored and allowed this to happen. The 'spin' of fear has permeated our society for over five years. Yet, how many terror alerts have we seen since the 2004 election? Moreover, how many of those prior to that were credible?
Our founding fathers, in their infinite wisdom, recognized the need for govt. that had checks and balances. Yet, we currently have neither! The executive branch has elevated and insulated itself beyond the control of the other two branches. It capriciously ignores and cherry-picks which laws it will obey and ignore while it simultaneously restricts/reduces the rights of its citizens.
The people of this nation deserve better. However, the blame for what has occurred rests solely with ourselves. Therefore, only we can repair the damage that has been done. It's our responsibility. Can we do it?
Lastly, with all due respect to the WWII generation to whom we owe so much, I have a question. Were they really the greatest generation? Great? Absolutely! But maybe the honor of 'the greatest' still remains with the founding fathers. The foresight they displayed drafting our Constitution, including the 'Bill of Rights', is what is worth protecting. Allowing this administration to trample our precious Constitution dishonors all previous generations and jeopardizes any future ones.

Name one thing in the bill of rights that has been dismantled. Explain how the Constitution is being dismantled. I have asked this question on Yahoo answers and not one person has told me one thing that has been taken away from American citizens. No freedoms, no Civil liberties, nothing. Quit spouting rhetoric that has no bearing on reality, no proof of existence, no substance. You people are stating to sound like Chicken Little "The sky is falling, the sky is falling!"

That is not possible by anyone as long as I am an American that believes in the Bill of Rights and the Constituion. We seem to need thousands of politicians to follow what they interpret as their Bill of Rights and Constitution instead of letting these great documents stand on the principles that are eternally applicable to all of our society and government. Anyone attempting to change these principles will fail. America was created to follow these documents but politicians have distorted the meanings of which are not hard to understand by most real Americans. Too much media has brainwashed people to be influenced to what the media presents as great leaders. The media does not want to present these documents as they are they wish to re-interpret these documents to follow the flavor of politicians of the day. "Bill of Rights and the Constitution de Jour" if you will.

I think he has really opened a can of worms. Just messing with the Constitution as he has. You have to look beyond just terrorists as later on this could fly back into the face of any person who disagrees and is labeled a combatant. Bush will go down in history for this mistake. Lets hope its temporary.
