I would love to help, but there is one problem; I have not read an Edgar Allan Poe novel since high school. Everything I learned I have forgotton. You should read the book yourself because that's the only way you will actually learn something. Sorry for this because I know you were looking for answers to your questions, but the best answer from me is do the homework yourself. That is the most fullfilling when you have finish and accomplished something yourself.

well i hope its not that important-im a bit rusty, im geussing it was to see his family after his mom died- he was in the army - hed just gotten a promotion to a higher rank, i know that he inlisted under a different name, i do remember that he served in s. carolina and virginia....the last one i had to look up though, seems like there are a lot of songs that begin w/ that phrase- and i cant remember wich band id heard it from- but i found a band called "poe through the glass prism",they had a pretty big hit called the raven back in 1976....hope it helped
