good for you.

declutter your life consists of both material and non-material items.

for myself, i got rid of stuff i have no use for, but kept for years because of "sentimental value". i sat myself down and kept repeating "do i really want to keep this". it took courage to toss some stuff into the bin, but i managed to do it.

but of cos, i am just human and still do like and buy material things. but i try to keep it to a minimal.

we do have to feel rich mentally so that life doesnt not just consist of "self-centred" and money. i try to read more so that i can learn more knowledge, even trivia knowledge is fine. cultivate a hobby that doesnt require much money should help.

i also try to tell myself i should be controlling money instead of it controlling me. so long my family and my needs are met, i hope (one day) that i will be able to contribute more to the society at large.

If you buy something because you truly want it, and will appreciate using it, then buy it, because it will make you happy. If you're buying it to show off, or because other people have it, or to impress someone, then your going to be unhappy.

I have a 10 year old car worth about $3000, because to me a car is nothing but a means to get from A to B. Don't like working on it, don't like showing off, just want to get in and out. On the other hand, I spent $5000 on my TV, but I love it. Every day it blows my mind, and every Sunday during football season is a party at my house. Totally worth it to me.

If there's nothing in Earthly Material things that floats your boat, then you will never become attached to inanimate objects.

All you can do is tell yourself that's not the type of person you wanna be. And hope that you listen to yourself.
