You can use products like "Round up", "Weed-be-Gone", and
others of that type. If you can keep the kiddies out of the playground area for a couple of hours until it dries ( like maybe
after they all go home for the day or eary Sunday morning
before they come out to play), there are no health hazards. Or
if it's all sand, you can use a narrow point shovel (sharp shooter)
and dig them up.. There's no point to just pull them up if you can't
get the roots.

Best thing is a fabric type weed block under the sand. Second to that is Roundup or its generic equivalent. Be sure to rinse off any dust or dirt from plants to be killed if its been dry. Roundup neutralizes in soil and will not penetrate dust or dirt film. Don't pull or dig plants for a week or so after wilt to allow to kill completely to the roots.

You have to weed at sundown so that any seeds that have fallen wont germinate. Its a daily process. What is under the sand? Give each child a paper bag an pay them a penny for each weed they get. Worked for my grandson.
