Honestly i have doubts if here heart is really in it. I think for her it's more like buying a puppy. I don't think she is fully aware of the implications of her decision. Madonna is not like Angelina, she's never shown any interest in international child adoption till now. It's difficult for one not to conclude that it could be a fashion statement of some sort for her. Guy Richie, her husband, is not for the adoption and she must not forget that she already has children who have grown up in the limelight and might not know how to relate to a black African child. What about the child? He will definitely benefit from the change in lifestyle, however Madonna's fame is going to create serious problems just look at how Angelina and Brad are being bombarded by the press, how do you socialise a child in such an environment? It's not healthy or conducive for raising a child especially an adopted child.

Hi,

I believe that the issue is overblown, simply given Madonna's celebrity status. Believe me, here in Africa (and I live in Ghana, so I know how things work), corruption is so rampant, that anyone with a bit of money could have arranged a Malawian adoption, even if they hadn't lived in Malawi the required number of months. I am sure that there are hundreds of people who have adopted a child, outside of the typical laws that require residency, etc., just by "dashing" the adoption officials a bit of hard currency. That's the way it is here.

I applaud Madonna for doing this, and feel sorry for her that she is going through this tribunal in the media. Oh, and I am NOT a Madonna fan.

I feel that she is doing the child a favour by providing a loving, two-parent home that is stable and supportive. Madonna seems to love being a mother and it was a complete turnaround.

I think she should be allowed to keep the child. Political correctness and procedure should not blind us to the fact that Madonna is a good mother with no history of drug use or violence or criminality and that she already has two children to speak of.

She also is saving a child from an institution. He was placed there after his mother died. Malawi is an AIDS-ravaged country. She just drastically reduced his chances of living in poverty and squalor. Children suffer from malnutrition, neglect and abuse in institutions and orphanages.

I think adoption is right but the way that she has gone about it is wrong. Why didn't she adopt an older child from England (which she says she now calls her home) rather than travelling to Africa? I just think she wants to be cool about it, but she should realise that unlike her Angelina Jolie actually spends a lot of time in the countries where Maddox & his sisters are born.

I think that Madonna engages in calculated publicity stunts. This is simply another one.

She decided to atone for her last publicity stunt--the crucifixion in her stadium act-- by staging yet another one, this adoption of a Malawi boy.

I do hope that she doesn't get tired of the kid and send him back, though, like chicks or rabbits adopted at Eastertime or the 'Christmas puppy' that ends up neglected.

Whatever reason she is doing it for and I am going with the spotlight theory and her career is down the toilet not that she was a great singer to begin with..but....the child can benefit from the change in its life and basically that's the bottom line even if he is farmed out to private schools etc. etc. it will be in a better space and will have to go on one day and make its own life and that's not a bad launching pad for any child.......

I think madonna wants to "keep up with the Jones" or in this case "The Pitts" The child will surely have a better life than he would have had but I think she did it for all the wrong reasons!

I think it's a publicity stunt. These people should adopt from the many U.S. children that would love to be brought into a privileged family. I think adoptions should be banned from other countries.

Another stunt from this aging has-been. She's never had an original idea, but is adept at borrowing from others. Motherhood, kabbalah, children's books (!), now adopting from Third World countries. It's embarrassing.
