Rang De Basanti will never win an Oscar. Indians have to realize that the mindset of a very intellectual foreign audience is very different. Can you imagine, sitting for 3 hours in a dark room, watching a movie with subtitles, not understanding a word of Hindi? The producers have to take away all the bs they cram into formula movies. They have to take out every song as it is really an extremely weird experience for foreign audiences. The songs (99% of the time have NO relevance to the story line and they are a great distraction. Movie run time should not be more than 80 minutes foe an international audience, and, unfortunately, most Indian movies are 150 minutes or longer, which is an excruciate torture for foreign audiences. When will the producers wake up?
All said, I am an Indian and I liked RDB. But I can see it from the point of view of a foreign audience too. Aamir should have realized it after his failure to plug Lagaan, which had similar problems, but these guys are incorrigible. They make movies for the Indian masses and expect it to fly in Cannes.....only in their dreams. I would love to see an Indian movie win an Oscar, and if perchance, RDB wins, kudos to them.

It'ld be lucky if rdb makes it to last 5 and would be extremely lucky if it wins out of the last 5 or 6. Earlier i read in some tabloid, to get the nod for foreign film, one has to make films on three categories. One - assault on communism and how it ended up in world wars, two - films by well known global directors, three - praising american sentiments.
I think rdb falls in none of these categories, lets wait till it gets to the last course of nominations.
