if indeed the land is holy why is it ever so violently troubled ?

The land is called HOLY LAND,..means that many HOLY PEOPLE and HOLY THINGS COME FROM THAT REGION.
However THE LAND it self IS NOT HOLY,..its just the same as other land...in the world.

Please remember,..that GOD ussually send HOLY messenger,...to a WICKED LAND/REGION.

Quite simply because there are many different religious groups who all think it is "their" Holy Land. As a result, each group wants to keep the Holy Land for themselves (the true believers) and keep it out of the hands of everyone else (the infidels) often using the same excuse to perpetrate violent acts ("It is God's will.")

Sorry maybe you have a wrong picture of what and where are the holy land for muslims.The holy land or places of muslims are only a small parts of Saudi Arabia country.The holy places are only(1) around the areas of Madina where there are many mosques built by muslims during muhammad pbuh era. such as Nabawi where there are a tomb of Muhammad pbuh with his close friends,Kuba mosque and Kiblatin mosque,funeral yard for muslims,Uhud hills and its grave yard for syuhada (burried died soldiers after war of Uhud between muslims and unbelievers)(2)
area of Mecca and its surrounding where there is haram mosgue the biggest one in the world where lies Kabaa for thawaaf in the centre ,zam zam mineral water spring,Safaa and Marwaa hills for sai (har walking 7 times vice verca between 2 hills,general funeral for muslims,(3)cave in hira mount where Muhammad hiding and praying himself,(4)Mina for throwing satans by little stones and Muzdalifaa for taking a rest for a while and its surro- unding and (5) Arafaa field with its surrounding.including Rahma hill where Adam and Eve met for the first time in this earth.These areas will be visited every year by muslims around the world for fulfiling haj pilgrimage and umroh..
The other major parts of Saudi Arabia country is not included into holy land such Ryaad and other cities including Jeddah where there are international air port King Abdul Aziz ,shopping centres,mosques and churches,general grave yard and sea port of Jeddah.Non muslims are free to enter non holy places.They are not permitted to enter holy places only.In holy places are very secure,safe and orderly.Violent and trouble accident are usually occurred in free places out of holy places..
