Popular as in well known? I'd say "yes". Plenty of people have at least heard of The Misfits and Danzig (not so much Samhain, though).
Popular as in well liked? Tough call on this one because metal and punk aren't very popular genres, but I'll say "yes" again. I think it's safe to say that he's like by people that generally don't like metal.
Also, his song "Mother" is going to be featured in Guitar Hero 2.

Yes, he is quite popular in the rock world. He doesn't get the respect and recognition that he deserves, but definitely plays a major role in rock history. Danzig has one of the most dedicated and enthusiastic fan bases. That has got to say something.

even if he is not someones favorite artist, i think everyone who listens to rock knows the name. so you could say he is popular. or at one point he had his day in the sun.....there were a couple of danzig songs i liked but i didnt really get in ot that band too much when they were around, i heard those jim morrison roomers also. but there is no proof that he is jim's son... but anything's possible
