Because without a standards based, brand name ICT system, a business can not grow.
The best ICT investments are those that are solid state, like a telephony system. That is because they do age, but systems like PABX and to some extent VoIP don't rely on there being a constant network connection. You can still use your phones if for example power is cut because one UPS should cover the entire pabx network, adn outside lines are still accessable. That way you can deal with your customers throughout system down time.
Also IT systems that are designed with at least 5 years life for the servers will be of a huge advantage here. To do this though, serious cash needs to be invested by a company on repuitable (non whitebox) servers and tested software. This is particularly important for small businesses because getting this wrong can make or break your company. It pays bucket loads to use standards based software, even if it is not as capable as its competitors for many reasons, but mostly for tech support.
Without a decent, solid ICT base, your business has no way in which to grow anymore, and is doomed to loose customers.
