Oh gosh. I work at Build-A-Bear...the adults are tough customers! When we stuff the bears, we have the customer "hug test" it to make sure it's up to cuddly standards. The kids are adorable and just tickled pink to have a new stuffed friend. The adults will stand there for ten minutes pointing out where it's a little too hard, where there's not quite enough stuffing, where there's a little too much fur...you catch my drift. Thant's my working with the public pet peeve! Interesting question...what made you ask it?

::falls over::
My pet peeve is peeps who will talk over me. I know I can be a bit verbose but hey if you ask a question kindly listen to the answer.
Now for the reverse, what my biggest pet peeve about the service industry iszzzz..... ::drum roll::
Clerks who ignore me, won't/can't answer a question. I am not talking about a Gatling gun of questions about a product but a simple yes or no question.
I have walked out of one major electronic chain where I was planning on spending at least 2000.00 dollars on a lap top with accessories plus a new video card for my PC and drove right across the street to its major competitor. I spent my money there only because the clerks there really know how to take care of the customer that walks through the door. I don't care that I spent a few dollars more for the product, its the customer service that counts with me.
I got exactly what I wanted for a lap top, I know I can trust the sales peeps at circui...umm there and I am happy with them so now I go right back to that store chain and I will never walk into best bu... er something or other again.

The public

I work them all day and my peeve is actually with my co-workers who refuse to go out of their way to help someone out or turn a bad customer into a good one.Those people no matter how annoying they are ,they are the ones responsible for our paychecks and if you work with the public and can't understand that they can have a bad day just like you can,,,then you're in the wrong line of work!

I work in an office where the phone has a caller ID, so in the course of a day I often note names/phone numbers of a caller. People who are calling seem to be unaware of this. Often, someone will call early in the day, ask a question, get an answer they are unhappy with, and become abusive. Then later in the day, the same person will call back, not recognize my voice as the SAME person they spoke with earlier, and proceed to ask the same question, acting very sweet. When I give the same answer, they ose about 17 different "what-if" scenarios until I am able to drill into their head that the answer is still the same, unwavering answer that it has been all day. Then the sticky-sweet person becomes abusive again!
Even before I had caller ID on my line, I often could recognize the voice or situation of the caller in repeated call situations!

I worked in a McDonalds for a few years and I hated the way people would come in and treat me like **** because they assumed that I was i complete retard, simple because I worked there. As it happened I was working in the holidays while I was at University. But then most of the people who treated me that way were probably twats anyway. Also, it was fun to wind them up sometimes...

What do I hate about working with the public? Everything, and nothing at the same time....depends on what time of day it is, really. I hate people who think it's funny to make me jump through hoops for that tip< playing games with it, hideing it or dropping it in a glass of water,otherwise hindering me> People who bring loud rude obnoxious childeren to resturants and dont remove them for screaming, harassing other coustmers and letting them run around like my resturant is a damn jungle gym. People who come into my resturant dressed like they just climbed out from under a pick up truck. At least wear clothes without holes in them, takeing off shoes under the table, thats agenst health code. I dont care if he is 5 and dosent want to, he is five, you are an adult, make him! People who fart or burp loudly in a resturant and giggle like it's funny...teenagers who curse loudly when a table of elderly people is right next to them. People who think it is cute to unscrew the salt or pepper shakers, people who poke holes in the sugar where they think I can't see it.

Honestly these days people act like little better then animals in a resturant, what happened to table manners and acting correctly in public?

People who don't know me talk down to me because I'm fat and have missing teeth. I have a degree in business but they act like I can't make change! I can't stand my dental partial so I don't wear it and evidently that makes me stupid! I speak 20 languages and can do math in my head.

People who know me say I'm their favorite person to wait on them. But these people see past surface things and took time to know me and my quality of work.

Doing training for the better part of a year & then having someone random come in & tell me how to do my job as if they know better when they wouldn't have a clue! Epitome of rudeness.
