this, have anything at all to back it up? Or is it more likely a disgruntled, helpless point of view? How could the gov't control the media when much of the media bashes Bush everyday?

Melanie - I'm not known for going easy on distorted answers. But it's late and maybe you would like to re-READ the entire question.....we'll wait....

Sorry -Proud to be a liberal - I skipped your answer because it truly defines much of what we Repubs say about the left. You didn't READ or UNDERSTAND the question....we'll wait, but I doubt anything more intelligent will exit your MOUTH.

Gary F - You get more RESPECT when you answer the question. It's clear that almost all of the media, esp. TV, are Bush-bashers. Denying an obvious truth is counter-productive. And why ruin a possible objection with literature about who the president likes. CAN YOU RECALL the long, long, long list of liberal celebrities that slept in the white house during Billy Boy's administration? You also have put all your eggs in one basket by claiming that FOX is THE media. Because he favors FOX doesn't prove the gov't controls the media. They are the one network that sometimes favors him and all the rest kill him everyday.

The government does not control the media. The media does it's best to control the government.

Are you an imbecile or what. Every govt has to have some degree of control over the media. For instance the number of soldiers killed every day in Iraq and Afghanistan will never be accurately reported due the public reaction. Remember the American media reported after three days into "operation Desert storm" that Saddam's army was wiped out and completely destroyed and yet the war raged on for more than a month. Every "Allied loss in wars has come only from friendly fire". Surely you cant be that stupid to believe all this crap. The war in Afghanistan is far from over and still rages on with no end in site.

They do control a partial bit of the media. They also control the history books. Some things that will look bad for america are not taught in schools. The things that are taught are sugar coated. Of course to make it look like we did the right thing for ourself but actually some things were wrong.

They also control what is talked about on the radio and television. I heard that on the radio. Not just with language control, but topics presented. They may pass a law that requires equal time for any debated topic in the media. Like if there is someone on the radio of tv that talks about a topic on one side, the advocates for the same topic who are on the other side will be able to compain that they want equal time on the other side of the debate. Then the radio or tv station has to put the same amount of time for the other side of the topic. Now that is more control.

Maybe it is because the White House refers to FOX news as ‘White House west’.
And, maybe there is almost no bashing – at least not compared to what there should be.

Most likely it’s because the relationship is so obvious, as these stories reflect:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bush hosts right-wing radio talk show hosts at White House.

The guest list included Sean Hannity, Neal Boortz, Michael Medved, Laura Ingraham, and Mike Gallagher. (Rush Limbaugh was unable to attend.) Friday’s off-the-record talk, set for 30 minutes, ended up lasting 90 minutes, where Bush told his guests that the war on terror has to be about right versus wrong, “because if it’s about Christianity versus Islam, we’ll lose.” He also showed them the pistol Saddam Hussein had when he was captured. Chris Wallace Ignores 20,000 Emails Demanding He Ask Rice About The U.S.S. Cole
More than 20,000 people emailed Chris Wallace and demanded he ask Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice this question today:

Prior to 9/11, you had eight months to respond to the al-Qaeda attack on the U.S.S. Cole. Why didn’t the Bush administration take action and put al-Qaeda out of business?

Wallace didn’t ask the question or any question on the topic. It’s the twenty-fourth time Rice has been on Fox News Sunday since 9/11 without being asked about the U.S.S. Cole.
Last month, Fox’s Chris Wallace asked President Clinton why he didn’t respond to the Oct. 12, 2000 bombing of the U.S.S. Cole. He asked the question even though the “CIA and the FBI refused to certify that Bin Laden was responsible” until early 2001, which foreclosed the possibility of a full response during the Clinton administration.
Wallace claimed he asked the question of Clinton because “I got a lot of e-mail from viewers.”

Go watch Outfoxed. It's a great film about fox and who owns the medias we see. You can get the film at Blockbuster. That's a start. There are public documents that reveal who owns what. It is true. Bush is a criminal, it's generally not bashing it's trying reveal the truth. There is however, political bashing on both sides.. that's different. Watch the news or read a paper in another country, there you will find the real HARD questions.

In Australia its more the otherway around.
With Packer getting the media ownership laws changed

In different political structures the media is indeed owned and controlled by the government, but this is mostly in communist and non-democratic nations.

Corporations, lobbyists, media, government.
I know the protest against the Iraq invasion was the largest in history.
I know I marched with 15,000 people and it was NOT covered on the evening news!

Government can control the media because it is the government that give business permits for media to operate. Likewise, government can give tax discounts on media that are friendly to them.

Maybe because it's your view that's distorted? What if the majority of the media is unbiased and you simply can't recognize that?
