Political correctness comes from politicians not wanting to alienate any voters. They do not want to appear to be crass and callous. The reason they still do it is because many Americans fall for it. If Americans would start voting for people based on their actions and not their words, then we could start to end it.

I think a little tact goes a long way. Other than that, I agree with you. If indeed you must be candid, be candid beautifully. Is that so wrong? Here is a quote from Theodore Roosevelt:

What has happened is one person has heard or seen something on TV that they didn't like. So they complain to the network and then one person sets the bar for all of us. Then those people take their success at banning speech on TV take that to the real world where they think they can tell everyone else how to talk or behave. It's at this point when I turn on South Park and thank God that it shows no sign of stopping.

I agree that political correctness is getting a little out of control. Sometimes we dance around calling people something so much that we end up looking stupid. For example--some people hesitate to call black people "black." Well I actually know several black people who prefer to be called "black" over "colored" or "*****." That's actually a very small example. I guess people are just trying to cover their bases and not offend anyone, but sometimes it's just a little much...
