a new law was enacted that made it illegal for people in the USA to gamble online. people who had money in their accounts (like me) were able to withdraw it, but can no longer deposit. you will hear all kinds of reasons why this was done, but the truth is that money won off-shore (which includes all online gaming sites) is not taxable by the IRS unless you are dumb enough to report it. the government got sick of people making money hand over fist, and not giving them their cut, so they got this legislation passed. guess i will just stick to card rooms, casinos, and home games.

Yes you can still play poker for money on the internet. The situation is a bit different because of the new law, but right now only Party Poker, Pacific Poker, and Pokerroom have banned US players amoung the big US sites. If you play on those sites, go to this list http://www.ultimatepokerbankroll.com/article.php/internet-gambling-ban-poker-sites-status and see which sites are still allowing US players. There's a lot of sites still allowing Americans, and frankly sites like FTP and Stars are much better than Party and Pacific!
