Gynecology treats women for different issues with their reproductive systems. From treating young women for yeast infections to treating older women for their uterus dropping (forget the medical terms used for that). Gynecology includes well checks every year via pap smear, etc. Obstetrics deals specifically with pregnancy and ensure the healthy progression of pregnancy as well as treating complications associated with pregnancy, and ultimately the delivery of the baby/babies. Since both areas deal with a woman's reproductive system most practices incorporate both specialties, but some Drs prefer one area or the other... OR depending on the malpractice insurance requirements of some areas Drs may shy away from Obstetrics completely.

the diff is that gyns deal with the various and sundry issues of that region where an ob deals with the issues of pregnancy
what you are looking for is a doc with a specialty in fertility... there are docs that only do fertility but often they come with a high price tag and insurance companies may not cover those kind of visits...so kill two birds with one stone and get an ob/gyn with a speciality in fertility... that way when your issues are resolved, you are still set up with the right doc to deliver your baby
my prayers are with you... the best of luck with this

Gynecologist is the doctor who is concerned with the diseases and disorders of the female reproductive system. whereas the Obstetrician is concerned with conception and delivery of the child , including infertility. So you better see an Obstetrician. Usually a qualified lady doctor will be both Obstetrician and Gynecologist.

An Ob doctor is one that monitors you during your pregnancy & delivers your baby. A gynecologist is a doctor that takes care of all your female needs; yearly exams, pap tests and also preforms surgery on your female parts when/if needed. I find it best to go to an Ob/Gyn doctor, that way both needs are met!!

The specialty is Obstectrics / Gynochology. I do not believe they are ever separated. If they are, go with OB/GYN.
