Nope.

Success is measured differently by each person. Some measure success by the amount of friends they have, others the amount of money, etc.

I measure success by the amount of happiness in my life.

I know, I know....go ahead and give me the thumbs down!

I saw this quote (from Emerson) a while back and thought you might find it useful. A very wise quote if I may say so.

SUCCESS

"To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded."

I would say that selfmastery is more important than charisma. Without the capacity to regulate and direct oneself, the ability to inspire and lead others will not get very far. Even the most excessive dictators mainly started off as disciplined individuals.

It is rare to find someone who is considered successful in life who has not demonstrated strength of character at least in the beginnings of that success.

No. Succeeding in life is in large part determined by getting yourself to do what you know you need to do. Discipline, self esteem, self confidence, respect for yourself and others ... these are some of the main ingredients to succeeding in life.

Persuasion, because you know best is one thing; manipulation is underhanded and a slimy way of achieving any goal....So, actually no, I don't agree.
I feel success is doing exactly what YOU want.

Yes absolutely and definately. If you get most people to do what you want you will be successful at getting people to do what you want.

I've heard that before, and I agree. It's all just one big power struggle between you and the world.
