In all honesty if you don't go places and do things you shouldn't on the internet you won't need either types of programs. But, if you really want one go with Windows Defender for anti spyware, and just use the windows firewall.

Yes, for firewall it's ZoneAlarm.
For spyware, spy sweeper is good but it's not totally free, they have trial of 14days.
You might consider free ones like Yahoo Anti-spy...

I'm happy w/ ZoneAlarm's free firewall, but there are other good ones.
Spyware checker? There _is_ no "best" one.
Make certain you have an antivirus checker.
