I would suggest Pocket Pal. They are not expensive and they hold a tone. You can pick one up for about $7.00 or $8.00. Then after you get decent playing it. Treat yourself to a Lee Oscar. I know a lot of people will tell you to start with a "C", Hut i have found that "G" & "E" also work very well for beginners.

This may sound silly, but my nephew recently bought one from Toys R Us. The one's they've got there are not really intended for children, and as my nephew tells me, it'sa great one to start out with and to learn the basics from.
