the only childhood nightmare i can remember that actually made me cry for my parents was when I had picked up a stray black cat. My mom let me keep it and it slept on my stomach with me. One night it had scratched my face while I was sleeping and it woke me up. I fell aslepp after that and I had a dream where everyone I knew (my family and friends) all had cat'like faces that were black. I was confused and scared. I woke up and the cat was gone and I was so scared I couldn't move. After a while I finally as able to whimper "mom" loud enough for her to hear me.
Now, as an adult, I always think that I hear someone breaking into my house. I'm in the military (don't live on base) and I work strange hours a lot. I have to sleep at weird hours during the day and my husband isn't always home. I have many guns in the closet and a loaded 9mm on my table, and alarms on the dors, but I still get scared I hear things. It's usually just my cats though.

My worst nightmare as a kid (but I didn't go running to my parents) was bizarre: I dreamed that the Berenstein Bears turned into vampires (the Berenstein Bears is a popular kiddie book series).
My worst nightmare as an adult: I dreamed that John W. Gacy helped to feed needy families before he became that deranged killer clown.

I had nightmares about vampires when I was little. I used to sleep with a winter scarf wrapped around my neck because I figured that I'd wake up while it was being taken off. Now I have nightmares about being in the woods and trees are falling all around me, and I don't know what's knocking them over but I feel something getting close...

I really can't remember what my childhood nightmares were about, but as an adult they are about harm coming to my child. It is my worst fear. I also have this weird dream that I can't breathe and I wake myself up gasping for air. It's scary.
