The iTunes software will have an extra button at the bottom of the iTunes window which you can choose. The iPod can be used just like an external drive and is used for more than holding music. Just plug it in with the USB connector. When the iPod icon mounts on the desktop, all you have to do is "click and drag" your pictures to that icon and a copy will be made onto your iPod. If you're collecting pictures from a digital camera or scanner, then you'll want to load those into your computer first. You can make a folder on your computer (hold down the Apple/shift/ and letter N keys on a Mac) and collect pics in the folder, then just transfer the picture folder over to your iPod.
