A server is a single computer used to provide a specific service.
E.g. a computer that holds a companies files would be a File Server. A computer that has a lot of printers connected to it is a Print Server. A computer that holds people's email is an Email Server.
A server is not always a COMPUTER in the sense of a box with a keyboard, mouse and monitor attached.
You could call ADSL modems a server too, because most run an operating system taken from Linux, which is one of the most versatile free operating systems ever. This makes it into a computer, as well. And an ADSL modem would be your "Local Internet Server", by that I mean that it is the device in your house or office that gives everyone else their internet.
There are some devices that hook up to Switches, which are just network multi-boxes, sort of a like a central hub where all computers in a network hook up to, that can host printers for other people on a network to use. These are Print Servers too.
A host can be a few different things, it's not always a server as such.
For an example, you ISP could host your website, or a number of computers could HOST your email and documents.
When people say that yahoo is hosting your email or website or whatever, or if they say Yahoo is the host, then they are just saying that Yahoo is the company that is providing you with service.

A server is a host computer that other computers connect to. It handles requests for data, email, file transfers, and other network services from other computers. Your computer is connected to several servers around the world right now!
A modem is a device that your computer uses to connect via phone to... a server. In my lab 40 comps connect to a server, which connects to 10 more somehwhere else, and they connect to ge-whiz how many more... all computers talking to each other.
Yes, a server IS a computer (usually big, always complicated, sometimes one, sometimes many together). A modem is just a part..
