The coming world crisis will determine much of this. It is possible that Islamist forces could win. I hope not. But if they do, Iran does seem to be the biggest Islamic power at the moment. However, I doubt Ahmadinejad has the political skills to run an empire. However, somebody else might, and in the aftermath of the conflict another Islamist country might emerge as the greater power. Saudi Arabia comes to mind as a possibility.
But, the more I think about it, I don't see the Islamists being capable enough at government, to win the conflict. They may have enough wealth and determination to do a lot of damage, though. I think in that case the U.S. will still be a major power, as Europe is already embroiled in ambivalence.
But, time will tell.

The European Union will be the next world power...second to that--China, with Japan in a close third, though Japan would have to start some WMD proliferation if it ever wants that title again (not that I condone such actions) The Euro is gaining serious momentum and has already surpassed the dollar as the preferred currency. Many Middle eastern countries including Turkey, would like to join the EU or switch their mode of currency exchange in the least...thank goodness Israel has our back(sarcasm). But in all reality America is scared which is why we are outsourcing so many combat related jobs to "contractors" all companies of American origin, to boost the economy to compete (besides controlling the global market on oil by "occupying" Iraq)...I give the U.S. 10-20 more years before our power begins to dwindle unless there is a serious paradigm shift in our way of thinking (including denying big oil the "end-all-be-all" status)

Hard to say.

China has severe problems of its own. There are people that want us to believe that China will take over as a world power in the next decade. This is highly improbable as they are unable to even feed its own people and do not have the domestic natural resources to sustain its own growth. Plus the US economy is vital to Chinas economy. When Americans are hurting, we arent buying goods which certainly effects China.

I dont see Iran as anything other than a tyrant rouge nation. They have very little in the sense of natural resources, produce very few export goods and they people are more politically divided than our own system. Their people want a more western Iran. I see revolution happening there within a decade, probably sooner.

Unless the US cuts its own throat, I see little in the way of credible threats to take her power both militarily and economically.

The EU is modeled after our own system and set up to compete with America on a global market. They are the biggest threat economically in my opinion.

Just my opinion.

the world will be smelling french-fried iranian in the next couple of years ... the US may or may not last ... what will most likely happen is a north american union with more power being centralized in UN control and a new constitution that overshadows the present one we have ... i would say in 20 years the US will not be the tight little sovereign country we have now but will resemble somthing totally different .... that is, if we can avoid being french-fried ourselves by pissing the rest of the world off ...

Iran will be a sea of glass after they are nuked in Jan. 2007 The U.S. will be the most powerful country for years to come, because of the new space laser to be introduced to the World next year. Nations will be shocked at it's awesome power.

No! Jesus would never permit it. Maybe one day Iran will be in favor with God but until then it is rampant with Godlessness.
