Well if you had information on this hard drive, your computer now thinks there is nothing there.

If this is a new hard drive, go ahead and create the new partition. Every hard drive for every operating system, NEEDS to have a partition, and then must be formatted before you can use it.

If you had critical data on it, you are going to need specialist recovery software to try to get the data back.

From what you described, it appears you have not configured you external hard drive. To do that, you'll need to enter Set Up again and allocate a file system, prefer NTSC, and designate the drive.

This isn't recommended to amateurs, so, I'd suggest that you get the people who sold you the external hard drive to come and install it for you.

Going through the Set Up by yourself is risky because the license for Windows XP is usually valid for a single installation and with one small mistake there, you could end up having to buy a new license.

All the best.

Cheers.

your drive has not been format or partitioned or is not a nfts or fat tabled drive.

Simple click on new partition and choose a drive letter and format the drive to used and then you will have a letter and see the unused drive and b e able to read and write from it in your "My computer" explorer window.

Note: when you format you will erase your contents on this drive if there were items on it back it up first before you format it.

You need to create a partition on the drive. Click the "new partition" button and follow the prompts.

find the cd for it or go on the internet and download the dirvers for it. If you can go in under properties click on the driver tab and clikc uninstall and then reinstall drivers and see if that helps to fix it.
