I would think it would depend on what area you wish to develop. Communication skills you could listen to television (arts and entertainment) where you would not be as likely to hear slang. Radio would also help. Reading is a wonderful way of developing your vocabulary. Keep a dictionary near by, if you don't understand a word, look it up. Hope this helps!

Get a tutor. Is English ESL to you? You are better off not just reading, but getting some audio tapes to learn how to pronounce our words! Reading the newspaper will only show you our country and what is happening here. Really learning the language comes from being apart of our world. =o) Good Luck

I am taking a Spanish class right now and one of the ways we try to improve our speaking is by watching Spanish television. You can simply try watching English TV. Also, if you're trying to work on you writing, try by translating whatever language you speak into English. Good luck, English is a very tricky language.

Talk/chat with english speakers in person/online if you want to develop your communication skill. Nothing works better than that!

find a friend that has the same goal. then, you can practice with each other. watch TV / read books together.
