My daughter ate so much at one month, that I gave up breastfeeding and started her on formula. At two months, my doctor recommended putting cereal in her formula. By three months, she was eating baby food. (All by direction of my child's doctor, of course)
It's just fine. My daughter was a big baby, and ate every hour until she was 8 months old. She's still a big girl. At two years old, people assume she's four. She's by no means fat, just a big girl.
I wouldn't worry about it. Consider yourself lucky that you have a healthy child. Just make sure to keep your doctor informed, and they can recommend things to help ease into food transitions. Good luck!

No worries. She can only eat what she needs. Right now she needs more. Once she gets older she will level out her eating. My nine month old is already 21 pounds. Some days she eats a ton, others she slows down. You can not over feed a baby. They are a lot smarter than some people think.

my daughter is also 5 months old.She wakes at 6 30 am, eats a 6oz bottle, at 9 am she eats a gerber fruit, followed by a 6-8oz bottle.at 12pm she eats a gerber veggie(sometimes 2 of them) and 2-4oz bottle.she eats a six oz bottle at 2 pm, and another at 4pm.around 5pm she eats dinner(a gerber veggie and fruit) has 2-6oz bottle and goes to bed for the night. Each day varies sometimes more, sometimes less. They reccommend not to start a baby on solids unless they are at least 13lbs AND have DOUBLED their birth weight. But if she is hungry after 32-36oz of formula a day, shes ready for solids.also check out gerber.com for tips and ideas.

Doctors don't alway sknow anything about nutrition, unless they took special training in it. NOT ALL DOCTORS DO! DOn't listen to any doctor who recomends food before 5-6 months of age, they are giving you bad info.
Babies shuld be exclusively breastfed, as much as they want, for the first 6 months, and then have food added to the diet.
If breastfeeding isn't possible, they should have formula only for 5-6 months.

When you say she eats lots, what do you mean? Lots of milk/formula? she could use other types of foods maybe, like starting on rice cereal, or whatever foods you want to start her on... Pears (easy to digest)
Otherwise, if little one is still eating lots, could be a growth spurt too. Not uncommon to do this lots!! They eat more, poop less, wake at night when they may not usually anymore... just be sure to keep record maybe of how much... compare with any other time of feasting... some days they eat way more than others. My little one does this to me all the time!! I chalk it up to growing!
Good luck, and hope this helped!!

As long as she is eating what she is suppose to formula and maybe some solids or breastmilk she should be fine. Don't worry about the amounts. Once she begins to crawl and then walk she will lose it. As she gets older teach her about healthy eating! Right now she's too little!

If you feel it's becoming a problem, then you should probably take her to the doctor and maybe get a good 5 year old friendly diet plan.

5 month old cannot feed on her own, unless she is fed.
In consultation with your doctor/dietician decide the quantum of food required and only feed that quantity to the child.
If your baby is uncomfortable with the prescribed quantum of food, your doctor is always there to advice.
