I'm considering travel there from the US and am worried about safety. If its safe enough, what are some good LGBT attractions near the capital?

As in the US, we have conservative and liberal people. In Mexico city you'll find more liberal peole.

You can buy "Tiempo Libre" (A magazine with many information on what to do, it lists gay bars, cafes, shops, and thetres).

Do visit the Living Room in Polanco, La Condesa, and Zona Rosa (The first two are very safe, Zona Rosa may be risky if you're walking alone at night).

Also, visit the museums in Downtown Mexico City, don't go alone at night, though. Go to Coyoacan, La Condesa, Xochimilco, and San Angel.

If you're here on a Saturday, visit "Bazar del Sabado" in San Angel.

You'll have a lot of fun in M.C. and maka a lot of friends.

Well in the Middle East and the US, they are hated, vilified and persecuted, to varying degrees (mostly from conservative Christians), but hate is hate no matter what the form. In Canada, the EU and some parts of Asia there is a more tolerant view taken, again, in varying degrees. As for what concerns the community, well in the US it would be either marriage equality or just plain being allowed live, breath and work without being hassled every time. In Canada and the EU, the concerns are more mundane since both already have marriage (Canada) or will soon be getting it (EU).

I know this cuz Im Mexican-American and I live close to the border, and I sometimes travel to Mexico. To their own, they are mean, gay people are the scorn of their nation, especially for Trans'. But for the American Tourist, they are such kiss assers; why cuz they are the papita(meal-ticket) for them. As long you are white, they will treat you like royalty, travel in packs not by yourself cuz they are muggers cuz you are viewed as the wealthy. Im viewed as the "White-Mexican" yeah I talk/understand in spanish, have my mexican heritage but Im treated very different in mexico. I would love to visit Guanajuato, everything looks like the turn of the century, old classic buildings.

Very closeted as a culture. They do have gay clubs, etc. If you go to those, I found them to be all gay and safe. Just don't wander off alone by any means! Stay with a companion and in public.
Have fun!

I have been to Mexico twice on different Gay Cruises and never had any problems.

Go have fun, but remember gay or straight you are a guest in another country and must respect their culture.

Well, many of the Latin American countries are very religious and they are probably against homosexuals.
