you could say that star wars was written in modern times but what about Beowulf. Was it written in ancient times, or what?

The earliest known manuscript of Beowulf dates to about 1000 AD. The exact date of origin of the poem is unknown but it is believed to have been composed sometime around the sixth century. Which would make it an early medieval writing.
