Or is that problem no longer a problem?

Absolutely!! However it's not just women, any man that they feel looks or sounds like they don't understand cars will also be an easy target. They learn to read people and guess that they wouldn't have a clue as to what the actual price or service needed really is.

It is sad but true, I once went into an auto parts store to buy a battery, and the salesMAN would look to my uncle for answers to his questions even though I was doing the talking!!

Best thing to do as a woman is to learn the basics about cars. It doesn't take long and it will help you in the "repair" world. Second, when you have a problem, go on the internet and research what it could be, then when you are told what is wrong you will know if they are trying to blow smoke up your @ss. When you bring your car in stay during the repair, watch what they are doing (the window is not always good, stand outside the bay) and demand the old parts that they claim to have replaced. This is not going to guarantee that you won't get ripped off, but I have had very good luck since I took the time to get educated on the subject.

I think it is a thing of the past. If a mechanic will rip off a woman - he will rip off a man too. Most men today do not know anymore about a car than a woman. I actually get more fair treatment my husband always makes them mad & I admit I do not know what is wrong. I have left car & said only call if over $500 otherwise fix it & they charged me $16 - some wire replacement. Perfect chance for rip off but not even a little padding.

I feel I get ripped off - I won't go to the dealer or the mechanic without my boyfriend, brother, or dad with me. They always charge me outrageous fees when I go by myself - and I know a general estimate of how much everything should cost. I'm not an idiot like they think - I know a thing or two about cars. It's ridiculous and sickening.

well I'm a mechanic. i don't personally rip off people but I've seen it done many times. jobs that people really don't need yet. the problem is that mechanics make there money of of there work no work no money.period.
Mostly its has stopped but there are still people out there who rip women off because of there lack of knowledge of car. So yeah it still exists

They try to rip us off - but nowadays women can get there own back by Ripping off the guys overalls, shoving him onto the bonnet of the car and having sex with him - while hes promising you, he will tell u the truth and nothing but the truth.

if you have to ask, then you are obviously a gulible "perfect catch" for a car salesman.

They sell people thousand dollar items, what do you think??? Or course they do.

The less you know about cars and sales, the more they can rip you off. Women know less about cars.

Not all of them do..but the ones that do, don't care if it is a man or a woman..they are just out to make a quick buck.
