Woodrow Wilson created the fourteen points, which were fourteen separate ideas to create long-lasting peace after World War One. He strongly wanted the United States to be the forerunning country in the League of Nations, however, the Congressional leadership during the post-war era was committed to a new isolationism policy, in which they did not want to get involved in any foreign affairs. The United States entered the war because of the Zimmermann Telegram which was intercepted from Germany to Mexico by the U.S. Strategic Service office. This telegram hinted that if Mexico would join the side of Germany, Germany would help them to regain lands that they lost in the United States during the Spanish-American War.
