Is it true that all babies have/are born with blue eyes? Articles and/or links would be great.

Thanks!

dark blue, and yes;

When a baby is first born, the eye still has not fully developed a dark pigment known as melanin that helps “color” eyes and skin. Blue or gray eyes (which many Caucasian babies have at birth) in a newborn mean that melanin is virtually absent within the eye’s colored portion (iris).

When your baby is about six months old, you’ll have a better idea of eye color as pigmentation begins to form and brown or darker eyes might appear. The baby’s eye color should be determined by about age one, although some individuals may experience eye color changes through adulthood.

People of Asian, African-American, Hispanic, or native American descent often have babies who are brown-eyed at birth because of darker pigmentation (melanin).

Babies that will have brown eyes, are usually born with dark eyes, not really blue just dark. Babies that will have any color other than blue will have blue eyes when they are born.

I've been told too that all babies are born with blue eyes. If the eyes will later turn to brown then the child starts out with darker blue eyes. I've also been told that all children start out as girls.

Looking over the results from all the posters...could it be a nationality thing? I mean maybe children who come from Europe ancestry start out with blue eyes....And maybe children who come from more middle eastern ancestry have dark eyes immediately?

no! babies eyes can change color (lighter or darker) in the 1st year after they are born but they are not all born with blue eyes, over half of my family was born with green eyes and we all now have green except for my youngest sister who was born with black eyes yes black matched her pupils perfectly and she now has blue eyes. My daughter had blue eyes though and still does. I have 7sisters and 1 brother if that helps understand my answer at all.

ok, a lot of people her are kindda misunderstanding your question...

like "cryllie" said, most babies are born with "blue" eyes, because of lack of real pigments.

some people here are saying: "no, my baby was born with brown eyes"

that is correct, too. if a baby is born with brown eyes, or a dark brownish blue, it means the kid will have BROWN EYES.

if the baby is born with blue eyes, that means he/ she will have any other lighter color, which could be hazel, green, or the eyes may stay blue (if they're lucky)

No because one of mine had brown eyes and the other had dark brown(almost black) eyes. They both still have brown eyes at 9 and 16. My first born had blue eyes and now has blue hazel eyes at 25.
