you can do that. this guy i like did that. he did not like his math and science teachers and he was not gettin anything so he came back to our community college. all you have to do is call the community college find out if they have the classes required for your intended major (pre reqs) and then talk to your counsolar at your college right now. its easy, and you might get more out of it.

Although your units will transfer, the more important question, IMHO, is whether or not you will be able to go BACK to the four year school when all is said and done. I understand that people at a 4-year school can be a little snobbish (I went to an Ivy League School...if you think your fellow students are snobs, try going somewhere that everyone else has a new Mercedes and all you have is a bicycle!). I was also the first one in my family to go to college, but I wouldn't trade my undergraduate experience for anything. Community colleges are not places to really meet people...they are typically commuter schools. Although it sounds like you are commuting to the 4-year school, there MUST be things you can do there to meet people that have like interests and/or situations as you!
I would say stick it out for the rest of your freshman year. You can sign up to go to community college pretty much on the last day, so you will have all summer to figure out what to do. Keep plugging away at your studies, and trying to make friends...I think you'll be happy you did!
Good Luck!

First of all, I'm also the first in my family to go, so I can relate, and second of all, my roommate wants to transfer to a two year college too. So I hope I can help you out. I would say go ahead and do it. Since you're a freshman, you probably won't have too many hours anyway so you'll probably be okay. Also, its a whole lot cheaper. After a year or more, go ahead and see if you can go back or go to another university. A lot of people in my town to to the junior college there, even if they graduated with high honors or something. I just didn't go because I wanted to take a different route is all. I found that living on campus totally takes all of that commuting business out of the equation. I wish you would look into that as well. Here at my university is a thing called Pegasus which is for first generation people like us, maybe there is something like that over where you are...I hope so. If not, ask around and ask until you get the answers you need. There are people at the university that I'm sure they can direct you. I hope that helped...good luck

Going to college helps you get a job because earning your degree gives you credentials. In general, four-year colleges are better thought of than community colleges, so yoy should think carefully before transferring to the community college. It's a fine place to start, but a four-year degree will get you farther.

I don't have complete under standing of your situation.
Think about your time and money wasted on commuting.
Investigate the replacement school. Ask does it get you to meet your educational goals. If you are seeking a bachelors check 4-year school for transferring issues. such as not accepting credits, which could cause repeating classes at both schools.
Good luck with your education choice

I would suggest moving to the college town and looking for a job in that area. A huge part of the college experience is living "on your own."

I started out in CC and I thought it was a great place to figure out what I want to do and then commit the time and money to go to a 4 year school. I would go for it, remember, credits are credits, and you can always transfer them back to the 4 year school.
