well frogs/toads are if you like quiet moist pets that do not like human contact but fairly easy to care for they need an tank that has 1/2 water 1/2 land and they eat live food daily(bugs for small one and even pinky mice for full grown pac mans and other bigger ones)... budgies if you do not mind noisy, messy pets that need a cage that gets cleaned at least weekly eat messy seeds daily and can be very interative with their owners....they both live about the same (depending on the frog/toad breed)

Frogs are fine and there are many colorful species and sizes to choose from. Do not be tempted by the Poison Dart frogs (Dendrobates, et al)...beautiful but require rather specialized card and breeding fruit flies. The Horned Frog of Northern South America is easy, colorful and not a jumper. I like Smoky Jungle Frogs and the African Bullfrogs (Rana adspersa)...both get fair size, easy to feed but not so attractive. African Clawed Frogs (Xenopus laevis) do well in a normal aquarium but are outlawed in some States. Avoid pond type frogs as they do not adjust well to confinement...they jump against the glass, develop bruises which lead to infections. A group of native frogs (Hyla spp.) do well in a planted terrarium but choose the larger species...the Cuban Tree Frog (Hyla septemtrionalis) is an easy one. From the Island of the South Pacific are the big tree frogs (Hyla vasta, etc.) and they are showy, easy to keep but a bit expensive. Toads tend to be drab, but Firebelly toads (Bombina) from Asia are attractive and do well in aquaria.

Budgies are loud and squawky and noisy! I have firebelly toads, and their call is so sweet and soft! The only thing about frogs and toads is that they eat live bugs. Can you handle that?

I have had frogs and birds and TRUST me frogs are easier - less mess, less feeding, less sound! Just my opinion - Good Luck!
