I really wish people wouldn't give foolish comments about the Iraq war motives as reasons for anything. We started the Iraq War due to Kuwait asking us to help defend them against Iraq's attack. We did so. We then waited a decade for the UN to do something about WMDs that EVERYONE thought they had. The UN was played for a fool and documented that the WMD materials that Saddam was PROVED to have had disappeared, and Saddam was STILL bragging to his allies that he had them, even then. After 911, we had a choice: Fight a two front war or end one (we were STILL at war with Iraq, there WEREN'T two wars, there was ONE). We decided to end Iraq because we were already on the ground and ready. THEN we went after Afghanistan. The whole WMD thing is like saying "We eat to chew." Dear gods, you can't get any more simplistic. Educate yourselves, folks. BUT: DO look into the costs of military expenditures. It's amazing how much we spend. Is it necessary? I don't know. The question is a GOOD one. We need to do something to end the spending, PERIOD. Ending earmarks would be a good beginning. At least it would end each side arguing "They refused to help the children/the military, the etc." when in truth they were voting down the fifty OTHER earmarks in the same bill. Each group has their own priorities. As a Democrat, I act as brakes on the Republicans. I just don't hate half the country in the process (that's just insane). We need that balance. I'd hate to see what happens if we ever reduce our military to nothing. Yet, I'd not give up being the watchdog on Republican spending on things I don't think are that important. I do agree with them on one thing. No more SOCIALISM. I've had it with that group. They need to go back to their OWN party.

Whether libs want to spend money on defense doesn't matter because the Republicans have control and spend a great portion of your tax dollar on defense and have eliminated domestic programs to do so. Remember, there is a huge war profiteering machine now under Bush made up of contracting firms friends that are disrupting the Pentagon and the military machine and siphoning off dollars and health care spending from the troops. If that's what you wanted, then your wish has been granted many folds over.

If you do some research you will see that the United States is already spending an incredibly disproportionate amount of money on national defense in comparison to education, etc.

As for welfare. I guess we should just sit back and watch poor people die, eh? It can replace Nascar as the sport of uneducated inbred hicks like yourself.

If you were to THINK FOR YOURSELF instead of believing stereotypes, you would find out that 1% of our Gross National Debt goes to Public Welfare, whereas 7 - 10% goes to CORPORATE WELFARE. That means 7 - 10% goes to business that MAY OR MAY NOT NEED IT. Check it out instead of coming on here making stereotypes without proof...
