You have to be able to know when someone is not telling the truth because misunderstandings could cause war. If you believe something to be true and it is not then you act on it in a way that is not appropriate. Likewise if you don’t believe something is true when it is then you will not be prepared when disaster strikes.§

When we communicate we tend to assume the communicee (?)
will understand our meaning and intent . But of course that doesn't always happen and misunderstandings can result. If we are aware of this situation we can at least have a chance of avoiding a potential problem of communication.
