I'm doing a science project for school, but I can't find any info on how to do the topic i chose. Its supposed to be "Can people remember visuals or sounds better?". I need information that i could form a hypothesis with, the steps and everything but i cant find anything. Could someone please help me out? I have a deadline and if I don't complete it and turn it in, I fail science.

Hi. Just remember this old proverb:
I hear and I forget...
I see and I remember...
I do and I UNDERSTAND.

Visuals and sound both register about the same in a person's memory. It is not the ability to hear or to see, but the shock factor thats involved. For instance, you can sit up a read a boring book for hours and never even get past the first page. But if it is about a topic that interests you, then you are more likely to read it and remember what you read.

Same thing goes for hearing. When the teacher at school is talking , you are hardly ever listening because it is boring. If the teacher starts to talk about a popular movie or song, then you start to listen.

So you should try to use both audio and visual and try to put in some boring stuff and some fun stuff. For example, if you had your grandmother listen to a rap song, she probably won't remember any of the words. If you get her to listen to a song from 30 yrs. ago, she will probably remember every word or at least the title of the song.

Hope this helps you out.

I do believe most people remember visually then by sounds...Seeing it plants a picture in your brain, its easier to learn to do something by watching, if we had to learn from sound, that picture of how to wouldnt be there....
