I know you specified "person"--but there was a man, knowing he was risking his life, who went into a burning house to save his cat. They both perished. There are so many kinds of "love," & devotion--I KNOW I would die for my cat, but wonder what the quality of her life would be without me, because we're so bonded. Except for people, as in Rita's answer, whose jobs require risking their lives every day--we can't say for sure what we'd do to save another--until/unless the time comes. & I HAVE heard of "ordinary" people who sacrificed themselves for another.
