I bought my Inspiron 6000 a few months ago and I have had no problems with the laptop itself, but one thing that has been a continueing and extremly annoying problem is the AC adapter. Since I got the laptop I have gone through about 3 AC Adapters and I have no idea what is happening to them. I have never dropped them or had any damage done to them, and there is no damage that I can see on the Ac Adapters. They simply just stop working. I don't now how they break, but when I pluged them into a power outlet the little green light just doesn't show up.

The first one that broke I threw out and I got a new one from Dell. Then the one I got from dell broke. I decided not to throw it out and kept it. I got another one from dell and have been using that one until today because it's not working anymore today . I decided just for the heck of it I would try the old one, and it worked.

So I was happy for a little while until that one stoped working, so i got the other one, and it was working again, so I was happy again. However, soon it stoped working. I tried the other one and it didn't work, so now neither of them work anynmore. I'm using my dad's work's laptop AC Adapter right now.

So I'm just wondering. Why are these AC Adapters deciding not to work on me? The only thing I can think of is that I have my computer plugged into the outlet almost all the time, and it is usually on. I don't see why, but does the charger possibly need a rest every now and then?

Is there anyone else out there that has been having this problem? Please help me out of anyone nows what's going on.

This may not be applicable in your situation, but if you have been plugging them into the same wall outlet, give them a rest and then try one in a different wall outlet. We had a problem like this with an AC adapter for a cordless phone, and it turned out to be the wall outlet.

If that is not applicable, it might be something in the laptop that is causing it to overload the adapter, making it overheat (probably not the technical term, but close enough).

The voltage must be at least how the batery requires, or perhaps +5 volt maximum over the limit. Do not use universals, coz the most of them are CRAP (Intex, Serioux etc...). When you look after an adapter, read first: INPUT voltage(from the wall socket 110 or 220), OUTPUT voltage, perhaps power, and more important, that many don't know, the configuration of the plug that gets into ur laptop. Look at the old one, and regard those 2 or 3 circles linked by a line.. something like "--(o--" and a "+" or a "-" appears on each side of the sign. It means that - or GND is placed on the external socket, and + is on middle one, or, as i seen before, there are upside down. But first check if the voltage fits the profile. Cheers.

You should see if someone you know has a dell or take it to the Dell store and see if the adapters work on the other comps. If it does then it is probably a problem within your comp.. Call Dell customer service and they should be able to help and tell you if you will be able to get a new comp.. or just go back to where you got it

I didn't even read your entire post and I already know what the deal is. Dell inspiron laptops are crap. The all start having power issues after the one yaer warrentee is up. Either the power port, the power adaptor, or the CPU fan goes bad. Check the dell forum on it. It's all over their website and they don't do anything about it.
