Well I thought it was a good movie,, but there are some parts that might bug people.. the dad goes through a mid life crisis and fantizes with daughters friend. Dad smokes weed, talk about death, there is shooting.. the movie might bother some people.. I liked it though.

American Beauty stands out in current film because it is so well done. You should see it just to look at the way the shots are set up. Visually it is superb. The whole construction of the film is masterful and the acting is excellent.

The reason some may find it disturbing is the subject matter, which is rather bleak. But if you have any interest in film as an art form you should see it.

It was a very good movie. Well acted. The disturbing part is the suicide of the dad, near the end.

actually he didn't commit suicide.. he was murdered.

there's so many layers and things to think about in american beauty. the best movie ever made in my eyes! BRILLIANTLY acted and filmed. anyone who says it's crap is a pretentious moron.

it is disturbing in a way, but it's uplifting too. depending on how you look at it. that's why the tag line was "look closer." :)

It's a really dark comedy. The first half is really funny, then it takes a disturbing path. Worth watching though. Kevin Spacey is really good in it.

i wouldn't say it's disturbing...i'd say it's evocative. it's the most realistic movie i've seen in decades, and i'm an old broad!! (almost 50 here) if you haven't seen it yet, you need to educate yourself and watch the whole movie, uninterrupted, from beginning to end, with the realization that life is, in all actuality, bizarre at one time or another for all of us. you MUST see this film.

I wouldn't say it's disturbing, actually. It is extremely well-made and definitely worth seeing.

It's kind of depressing, I guess but the quality of the film is very high.
