UC - is a University of California..... ex: UC Irvine - these schools are private and more expensive but have good programs for studenst who want to be doctors, nurses, ect.
CSU - California State University....ex: CSU Long Beach - these schools are public and the tuition is more affordable than UC schools. They have good programs too and it depends on what you want to major, ex: teaching, physical therapist, theater.
CCC - California Community College ....ex: Cerritos College, ELAC - the tuition is way affordable, they charge $26 per unit and you can earn your AA here. You would have to transfer to a UC or CSU to get a bachelor and above. If you do not know what to major in, it is best to go to one of these to finish general education classes.
Independent Colleges I think are like ITT tech or DeVry, they are expensive but you only learn and study what you will be majoring in, it's like a direst studies college. You skip all the other classes and go direct into what you want to study.

1. UC transfers take CC students first. Then, if there is still room, they take transfers from other UCs. And then, if there is STILL room, they take transfers from any other school. So if you want to transfer to a UC, CC is the way to go, NOT CSU. However, CSU offers a decent enough education, so you may want to consider it. In general, a CSU education prepares you for a career right out of college, while a UC education prepares you for graduate or professional school. 2. Easier than what? 3. Yes, you do save a lot of money. Some people don't want to live at home for two more years. Some people don't want to go to college with everyone from high school, but want to go to college and meet new people. It's a personal choice.

UC - is a University of California. This is the premier PUBLIC university system in California, and focuses on research rather than undergraduate education. There are 10 campuses and one professional school (UCSF). Each campus focuses on different things, but most of the campuses are considered top schools in the world (Berkeley, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, UC Davis are all considered to be top 25 schools in specific disciplines).
CSU - California State University....this is another public school system. The CSU system comprises 23 campuses that focus more on undergraduate education and less on research. Most campuses do not offer the Ph.D. degree.
CCC - California Community College. These are two year colleges that offer only associate degrees. They are good places to get your general education classes done if you plan on attending a four-year school, because the tuition is much cheaper.
Independent Colleges: PRIVATE schools like USC, Cal Tech, Stanford, etc. They are very expensive but also world-renowned, like the UC system campuses are.
Good Luck!
