I know that illegal immigrants can be helpful, but can't they think of a better reason for opposing anti-illegal immigration laws?

It's a strategy. And it works. It's can be a positive or negative spin.
Hardly any one criticizes Israel anymore, irregardless of anything they might do, because no one wants to be labeled as a bigot or anti-Zionist or Jew hater. (Not necessarily true - but, hey, it works)
Pro Abortion is called Pro Choice because who can possibly be against Pro Choice? You really want to be labeled as someone who doesn't want people to have choices any longer? Of course you're for freedom of choice. (It's a stretch to equate the term "pro choice" with abortion - but that won't slow the spin masters down any)
And the big buzz now is anyone who opposes the war in Iraq is anti-American.
Huh? It might be just the opposite - but if you hear it over and over again, it must at least have some validity, right?
And soon enough, the concern and dialog over ILLEGAL immigration will start to fade away because no one wants to be labeled a racist.
There should be no debate concerning the alleged "rights" of ILLEGAL immigrants - they don't deserve any, period.

Calls of racism is a tactic used by the far left and by race baitors, who make their living promoting racism, like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.
There is nothing racist about securing our borders.
Somebody once tried to call Bobby Knight a racist, which is not true. He attacked the person verbally, he said, I feel sorry for you! It was never brought up to him again.
You have to remember that the Democrats want open borders. They think that most of that uneducated immigrant labor force will vote Democrat. They are even promoting that illegal aliens vote in some states. They are selling our country out for politics.

because most of the illegal immigrants happen to be from Central and South America. some think that those people in particular are being targeted.

Because the liberals think we should be tollerant of those that sap our resources, use the healthcare mine and your taxes paid for, lower our wages (and keep minimum wage at the unlivable 5.15) and learn Spanish to accomodate them. And because Liberals have no good argument, they label the people that respect our country as racist. Liberals are hurting America.
