If it is a wild turtle you should not keep it. It is cruel to the animal because you are taking them out of their natural home. Turtles are very cheap at the pet store and you can find supplies and books to go with them.

Go on-line and see if you can find out what type of turtle it is so you're sure that you're able to feed it correctly. Turtles are cold blooded creatures and cannot regulate their body temperature by themselves, so you will have to provide it a source of warmth (something it can cozy up to when it's cold, and walk away from when it's hot). There are heat lamps available at most pet stores. Depending on the type of turtle it is, it may also need water to imerse itself in occasionally... We can't give you much more information, though, until you can figure what KIND of turtle it is.

So long as it's not a snapping turtle they're decent pets. feed him repto-min pellets from your local pet store and keep him in an aquarium. Also every now and then you can give him either a couple feeder goldfish or live minnows form your local baitshop.
Be sure to keep his aquarium clean and wash your hands after handling him. Handling fish and reptiles has been linked to salmonella.

they are cool, they eat a lot, they drink a lot, and they are good pets as long as you wash your hands after you pick them up because they might have salmonella poising or what ever on them.
