I really tried to keep an open mind to this Civil War issue and hoping for a balanced argument but never got one. Check my reviews for Frontlines if you don't believe me ;D. Anyways, here's my 2 cents...

There are ideas behind pro-registration that make it a very good idea.

By having the government know the identities of super-powered individuals, they can better protect both the civilians and the heros. This keep heros from acting as vigilantes, taking the law into their own hands or not caring about collateral damage. People should be held responsible for their actions and while there would likely be extenuating circumstances for heros (as there are for police officers as long as it is proven they were in the right)... causing thousands of dollars worth of damage to the city only to catch a purse snatcher is hardly just. Even worse would be if the hero's recklessness or inexperience caused the death of the criminal or an innocent person. After all, some heros have immense powers and they might not be able to control them. Others don't have the experience to foresee what might go wrong or be unable to make difficult decisions (such as a hostage situation).

The act might also allow the heros to get proper training in both law enforcement and in their powers. Through the act, inexperienced Heros could be assigned mentors with more experience and allow them to become better at protecting the innocent. The act would allows the heros to easily seek out help from authorities should they need it. This could be with gathering information, medical needs or even protection.

The major downside with the registration act was forcing superheros to reveal their identity to the PUBLIC (thus the registration cards). A far more appropraite idea would've been for the trusted higher ups in the act (like Iron Man, Reed Richards, the President and National Defence or ONE) to be the ones who know these strictly confidential identities. The same thing that happens for covert-ops (or flight marshals after 9/11) and all those people in the real world. For the general public and law enforcemnt, there would be 'safe-list' of heros. That way people can know what heros are in compliance with the act while keeping the hero's family safe from harm.

Yes, there's the possibility that the list might leak... and yes, this is the comic book world so it's VERY likely. However, as Aunt May told Peter before he decided to announce his identity... Judges, Lawyers and Police Officers (as well as many others) all make the world a safer place without hiding behind masks. Their identity is public and they know the risks that come along with their jobs, as do their families.

HOWEVER.... just because I think that the registration act is a good idea in theory does not mean that I agree with the steps Iron Man has done to make it possible. There should've been more discussion about the specifics of the act and a longer grace period before resorting to extreme force and imprisonment. The idea of creating a prison that makes good heros want to kill themselves is a monstrous idea. The idea of having 'reformed' repeat villains given freedom in exchange for hunting down 'rogue heros' is an astonishingly stupid and near-sided one. As is resorting to untested genetic sciences to create an army to hunt down these heros.

That being said, it's impossible for me to still stand behind the registration act after all that's been shown.

Edit: I guess that means I'm anti... Iron Man really screwed things up ::)

ANTI-registration. ALL that registration has ever been good for is a way for the government to have a list of people to blame when things go bad. Just ask any Jewish people that lived in Germany, Poland, Austria or several other surorunding countries in the 1930's and 40's, they will tell you just what registration is all about.

Anti registration, To tell the heroes that they have to reveal their identities gives the Government too much leverage against them. SHEILD or any other Govt Agency could threaten their families or friends in order to get them to do what they want. Bad idea. Not really a Marvel Fan but I keep up to date on what is going on.

This is relevant to the Civil War correct, to be honest I was never too much into marvel but I've become interested in the direction it is going. I think they are starting to branch away from tedium faced with a lot of other comics. This one is hard...Captain America or Iron Man? Good vs Good

Anti. You have to protect the families of the heroes, and if there's a list the bad guys will get it. That, and you can't go against Captain America--that's unamerican! (I'm soo glad Spidey came to his senses!)
